Say hello to...

Name: Samantha Kimber (known as Sam)
Job Title: Receptionist

1. How long have you been working here?
I started on Monday 10th August so I’m in my third week working part-time (three days).

2. What did you do before joining Highworth Dental Care?
I’ve not worked at a dental practice before so that’s new but Louise is a great mentor and my ‘go to’
person. Most of my career to date has been in customer-facing roles working as Cabin Crew initially for Thomson Airways and then British Airways. I then left the sky’s to settle down and worked at a relocation business helping large companies such as Nike.

3. What does your job involve?
I work part-time, Monday-Wednesday. I manage the Reception desk with Louise. This includes making
appointments, planning treatment plans into the diary, calling patients, cash up, send referral letters for patients and make sure our reception area is welcoming.

Louise is my ‘go to’ person, my mentor, I’m learning so much. I’ve been taking notes and becoming familiar with the various systems. The dentists have taken the time to explain how to book treatment plans. Poppy, the lead nurse and Stephanie have been a big support too.

4. What is the most challenging part of your job?
At the moment I am getting used to categorising appointments in the diary to ensure they have the correct time and intervals when part of a treatment plan. I’m coming across new dental acronyms every day!

5. The best thing about my job is...
It’s great to build relationships with patients who you may see in the town. Contact with people every day is
what I enjoy most of all. Getting home at the end of the day knowing that I’ve helped someone. The whole team have been absolutely lovely. Everyone’s friendly, this is important to me. I appreciate the flexibility I have to be able to balance my work and family life.

6. What attracted you to working at Highworth Dental Care?
Returning to a customer facing role after working mainly on email with a bit of interaction on the phone I missed contact with others. I also wanted a part-time customer role. I enjoyed the team environment at Thomson so I am
delighted to be working again in a small team in a local community.

7. Name one dental or oral health tip/product you would share with your friends or family?
My daughter’s first baby tooth has just come through and her gums are sore, more on the way! I asked one of
the dentists about brushing and he suggested using a small piece of clean gauze around my finger and use this to clean her teeth. Not only is it soft on her gums but she will get used to having something in her mouth.

8. When I’m not at work you can usually find me…
At the swimming pool with my daughter. She’s having lessons.

9. Where was your photo taken?
In Rio.

10. If I could jump on a plane and go anywhere tomorrow it would be...
Maldives. I was lucky enough to go on honeymoon there and would love to return. It’s very relaxing.

11. What one thing would you struggle to live without?
A cup of tea.

12. What’s your favourite meal?

13. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Be invisible, so when I get home I can have five minutes to myself!

14. What’s your favourite film and why?
Pretty Woman – a feel good film I return to again and again. Great music!
